MV DOULOS VISITS SYDNEY

22nd Aug to 7th Sept

Wharf 5 Darling Harbour

Tuesday to Saturday
10am-10pm
Sunday and Monday
2pm - 10pm

MV DOULOS ARRIVES IN SYDNEY ON FINAL AUSTRALIAN VISIT

The MV Doulos arrives in Sydney this week on part of its final visit to Australia . The Doulos is owned by Operation Mobilisation, an international and interdenominational mission organisation. The Doulos has changed her name and occupation four times since her robust beginnings in 1914. She obtained a face-lift and transplant after serving in both world wars. In 1948, she left New York, destined to see the world. Year after year, her name is etched in the Guinness Book of Records.

Two years younger than Titanic, active at an age when most ocean-going vessels are rusted scraps in the ship yard, Doulos continues to sail the seven seas bringing a message of knowledge, help and hope to the nations. The Doulos is staffed by 300 Christian volunteers from over 40 countries. Originally built to transport fruit, Doulos has had a fruitful career carrying literature and aid to more than 100 countries.  The world's oldest ocean-going passenger vessel serves as the globe's largest floating bookshop, maintaining a selection of 6,000 titles.

In 1999, Doulos sailed around Australia, attracting more than 200,000 visitors.  Since then, she has toured 175 ports in 66 countries, splashing through waters along 3 continents.  After nearly a decade, this “grand old lady” and her international crew, returns for her final Aussie tour. As part of its Australian tour the Doulos will be visiting Sydney from 22nd August till the 7th September where its main focus will be evangelism and to inspire Christians to serve God through mission.

Whilst in port Operation Mobilisation Australia invites members of the public to participate in this historic experience by joining them onboard for a tour, signing up for a programme, browsing the world famous bookshop, and enjoying a superb coffee and candid conversation in the International Cafe with members of Doulos’ multi-cultural crew. A number of Australians will also have the opportunity to serve on the ship while it is in Australian waters to get a taste for mission, and teams from the ship will visit places such as Churches, schools and prisons.

Whilst in Sydney the Doulos will be berthed at Darling Harbour Wharf 5, next to King Street Wharf, entry opposite Napoleon Street, and will be open from 10.00AM-10.00PM Tuesday to Saturday and 2.00PM till 10.00PM Sunday and Monday.

Quiet Days

Saturdays 10:00am - 5:00pm

NEXT 27th September

'Winbourne'

1315 Mulgoa Road, Mulgoa

$10.00 per person

Dates are:-

27th Sept - 25th Oct - 29th Nov - 20th Dec

Because of the increased interest in the Wind Farm Quiet Days in 2007, we've decided to increase their frequency to once a month across 2008. So, if life has become too turbulent and "noisy", here are more opportunities for you to unplug from the rat-race for a day a month in order to intentionally still your heart and purposefully engage with God and others. Our Quiet Days are structured for prayer, worship, reading, biblical meditation and a community experience.

Each time we'll be meeting in "The Chapel"; a beautiful room at the Edmund Rice Retreat and Conference Centre, better known as "Winbourne", which is set on 250 acres in the Mulgoa Valley and was once the home of a notable Australian colonial family.

You will need to bring your Bible, perhaps your journal and any devotional books you might want to use during the times of silence. There will also be ample room for creativity, so if you would like to bring a musical instrument or perhaps art materials, please feel free.

There is also a labyrinth on site that will be made available to us across the whole day.

Tea and coffee will be provided across the day, but you'll need to bring some meat and whatever else you like for a BBQ lunch.

There is a small cost of $10 per person for the day and you will need to register your intention to come by Wednesday 20th February for our first Quiet Day of 2008 as I need to give final numbers to Winbourne.

MARRIAGE WEEK IN AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY 2008

14th to 20th Sept

Marriage Week is a great time to reassess marriage. A time to see that it is more than a piece of paper, a word, or a contract. Marriage is a relational institution that makes two people one entity - the ultimate team.

Our marriages are not private matters. Our children, gain emotional security and a myriad of benefits from our marriage, our love and union. Our marriages matter to our extended family. They matter to our employers. They matter to society. They are the fabric that holds families together. On average married people live longer and have good relationships with their children; families enjoy better physical health, married men earn more money. Wow, that puts a lot of weight on marriage!

So, do something for your marriage in this week in September, come to think of it why wait - do it now! Write a letter of thanks or praise to show your love for your spouse. Buy them a special gift, it does not have to be large or expensive.

Week commencing 14th September 2008 there will be special events happening across Sydney:

~ you will be able to re-affirm your vows with other couples doing the same thing

~ you will be able to take your spouse out to "The Marriage Party" and celebrate your marriage and also learn how you can become champions in marriage.

~ and much more
